The coordinates of most of the cities and towns are listed; if yours is not listed, you can contact us to have it added. We intend to add the coordinates of more cities and towns in the future.

Each profile page shows a reasonably large map of the vicinity of your location, ranging over about 50 miles. Zoom buttons and satellite buttons are included. The approximate location of your town or city is indicated on the map by a marker (note that total accuracy is not guaranteed). Your privacy is protected by not showing your address; we do not ask for your address details.

We can do this because Cheeky Monkey Dating is a free service to its users, and therefore complies with Google's terms for use of Google Maps on external websites. No payment is required to list your profile or to contact other members on this site.

Cheeky Monkey Dating sees its first spam

It had to happen. I just didn't think it would happen this soon.

One of our members (and at this time we only have 12) has decided to send spam to most of the other members here.

I am taking the following action to combat this problem:

1. Immediate action: A warning has been added to the top of ALL mail pages, advising about email spam, and scams in general.

2. What I'm working on: I'm adding a system that allows system-wide blocking of mail sending to users that have spammed others. A link will be added to allow you to report spam. I will then see the mail, and I'll be able to block that user from sending further mail. Existing mail will stand.

As it's quite easy to add, I'll take this opportunity to add a way to allow individuals to block mail from others.

I think the best way for it to work will be as follows. If you send mail to somebody who has been blocked, they will be able to reply to you. You'll be able to block that user again later, if you wish.

Cheeky Monkey Dating Goes Live

Cheeky Monkey Dating went live for the first time on 4th August, 2006.

Cheeky Monkey Dating is an attempt at an online dating website that will always include the basic services of profile publication and messaging for free. It is to be sponsored by advertising.

The intent is that the service will be distinguished from other offerings in the sector by making it easier than ever before for people to communicate with each other. Personal details such as email addresses and Skype accounts can be listed on the service, and these details can be made available to the public, to members only, or kept private, as desired by the owner of the profile. Email addresses will be published as images to help prevent spamming. A basic email service is available on the site itself for those users who would prefer initial contact to be made this way.

Searching through the database of profiles is easy; this can be done by location, age group or sex. Also, the site is one of the few dating services that includes RSS feeds, so it is possible to add the list of new profiles to My Yahoo, My MSN, and similar services. This gives profiles greater exposure than they otherwise receive.

Other new features are planned, and will be announced within this blog as they are released.
